Sadda Haq!

We, at Pune Collective, invites you to our ninth program on Saturday, 19th, December 2020!

For the past few months, farmers from across India have been marching on the streets of Delhi. This time, the occasion is the 3 new draconian laws passed by the centre that will adversely affect the agriculture in India. The Central Govt has unilaterally passed the laws without consulting the farmers of the nation (or even without forming a committee) and now has taken an unfortunate and adamant stand of not even listening to the protesting farmers.

The farmers, on the other hand, have responded with a historic unity, resolve and clarity about how the 3 bills will be detrimental to their lives and farming cultures. The BJP Govt. tried breaking the farmers’ protest by indulging in nefarious activities. First, they dug up roads with JCBs to stop the advancing farmers. Then came a more heartless move: in the cold winters of Delhi, the farmers were ‘welcomed’ with water canons. If this was not horrifying enough, the farmers were accused of being anti-national and Pro-Khalistan. The pro-corporate and anti-farmer ultra-nationalist trolls (let loose by the BJP) on the social media tried everything to delegitimise the farmers’ movement for their legitimate demands.

But the farmers’ commendable resolve to respond democratically to this authoritarian Govt has changed the equation. Their appeal to question the Govt’s pro-corporate and anti-farmer policies has now reached our doorstep. It is now the responsibility of us, the common Indians (the salaried class), to understand what the farmers have been articulating from the prism of activists on the ground and intellectuals studying policies and movements. We at Pune Collective are proud of creating this possibility through our program.

The speakers for the session are Amit Narkar, an independent researcher on social-economic issues and social activist; along with Inderjit Singh, an Agriculture Scientist and Vice President of All India Kisan Sabha.

This session will be in Marathi and Hindi.
