We at Pune Collective, invite you to our next session on Tuesday, 9th, May 2023.
For the last few weeks, India has seen a huge protest by sportspersons especially from the wrestlers. An investigation into sexual harassment complaints against former WFI president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh failed to be conducted despite protests by high-profile sportspersons. This is a clear violation of the 2013 POSH Act and Vishaka Guidelines. It highlights the situation in the institutional set-up of various Sports Associations in India. The discouraging message it sends out is clear. There is a lack of political will to implement the law on the part of the state.
There is a blatant misuse of official positions and the use of muscle power by the accused to intimidate and silence those speaking up. We condemn this and we stand together with all those sportspersons who are fighting for their dignity.
To understand this issue in detail, we invite you to join us at 5.30 pm, on Tuesday, 9th, May 2023. In this session of the Pune Collective, we will be joined by Jagmati Sangwan, an international level volleyball player, Bheem awardee and a Vice president of All India Democratic Woman’s Association (AIDWA), Indu Agnihotri, Former Director, of Centre for Women’s Development Studies, and Public Intellectual, to share their own experiences from the protest site and discuss the larger socio-cultural, and political concerns.
Do join us to stand together in solidarity with our fellow Sportspersons in this struggle.
This session will be in Hindi & English.
