We at Pune Collective, invite you to our program on Saturday, 14th, August 2021, at 6 pm.
The idea of India is increasingly subjected to systematic attacks today. The voices of equality, unity, and value of human dignity are consistently targetted – whether directly through the violence of law or by the vigilante groups of the majoritarian government. Journalists are harassed, arrested for reporting the truth. Activists fighting for human rights and preservation of secular democratic principles are also consistently arrested under draconian laws made for the suppression of dissent. The Pegasus espionage is yet another tool adopted by the state. Not only political opponents, judiciary, security forces, CBI, bureaucrats but also ordinary citizens have not escaped from the snooping of the surveillance state. Such surveillance of individuals is an encroachment on their fundamental right to privacy and an attack on the very foundations of democracy. Modi government has made it clear that their surveillance state is capable of crossing every possible boundary of democratic governance to crush its critics and opponents.
Our freedoms to think and live as free citizens are at stake. To let this abuse of power continue with impunity will be to allow for suspension of the fundamental rights of every citizen. To not let this abuse continue, we have to come together against this and fight for freedom once again. We have to speak the truth fearlessly.
In this session of the Pune Collective, we will be joined by three towering personalities: Natasha Narwal, A Human Rights Activists, one of the founding members of ‘Pinjara Tod’; along with Keshav Waghmare, A Teacher, Writer, Editor, An Activist, associated with Dalit Adivasi Adhikar Andolan and Subhashini Ali, A Polit Buero Member, CPI(M), Vice-president, All Indian Democratic Women’s Association, Former Member of Parliament, Loksabha.
